Hulme Hippodrome, on Preston Street, has been named as one of the ten most endangered buildings in the country by the Victorian Society. The historic building, on Preston Street, was designed by renown architect Joseph John Alley who also designed the Pavilion Theatre in Liverpool and The Plaza Stockport. Opened to the public on October 10, 1901, the Hippodrome entertained audiences of up to 3,000 with music and theatre performances. The venue saw many high-profile performers, including Laurel and Hardy, take to the stage until its closure in the 1960s.
