The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour Hosts its First Film Premiere - Moscow, Russia (14th April, 2010) – The premiere of Vladimir Khotinenko’s new film – Pop (aka The Priest) – which took place on Easter Sunday in the Church Council’s Hall of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, has become a unique event in the history of the Russian motion picture industry. Kinoproekt Company provided the technical support and installed the digital projection system supplied by Christie.

Pop had become an outstanding phenomenon amongst the Russian motion picture industry even before its official release. It is the first to be blessed by the Russian Orthodox Church. The production was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

Alexander Rubin, General Director of Kinoproekt Ltd., commented on the venue for the premiere: ‘The Hall is intended for church assemblies. It is a rather large hall with an amphitheatre and side balconies, but it is not fit for motion picture demonstration!

‘However, there’s no task is too big for Kinoproekt’s engineers to implement. We installed the equipment for the first release of the picture – a Christie CP2000-ZX digital cinema projector, a 12.1 x 5.1-metre, white-matte screen and special acoustic system’.

‘The hall’s architecture, including the many skylights in the cathedral, called for a solution to avoid an ambient illumination of the screen. And the solution was found: we draped the windows with a dense dark cloth’, says Alexander.

The Christie CP2000-ZX projector was equipped with a CDXL-30SD lamp. Alexander Rubin explains the choice of the model: ‘The projector equipped with CDXL-30SD lamp gave us the opportunity to produce the ideal brightness of picture’. A DoReMi DCP2000 server was used as the signal source. Sergey Kravetz, head of the Orthodox Encyclopaedia Film Company, notes: ‘Many people think that it was too daring to demonstrate a motion picture in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. But His Holiness Patriarch Kirill gave his personal consent to this premiere being held on Easter Sunday. We believe it was an outstanding event in the cultural life of the capital of the Russian Federation'.

‘Our engineers have a great experience in equipment installation at various venues. Each time the wide range of Christie projection equipment helps us to ensure the best possible solution and to make the first release unforgettable’ concludes Alexander Rubin.

Christie Supports Visualisation Show at Hannover Messe - Mönchengladbach, (April 2010) – Under the motto 'Efficiency - Innovation - Sustainability', the next HANNOVER MESSE- 19 to 23 April 2010 - will be showcasing innovations, new developments and technologies, alongside new materials from the world of industry. As part of the “Digital Factory”, which is one of nine trade shows taking place within the Hannover fair, there will be a special show in hall 17, focusing on Virtual Reality and 3D Visualisation.

Central to this show is a 3D Theatre where a series of 3D and Virtual Reality applications will be shown. This dedicated area is conducted by the Deutsche Messe AG in cooperation with the Virtual Dimension Center (VDC) and ICIDO from Stuttgart (Germany). Christie, leading manufacturer of projection technology supports this special show providing its HD 3-Chip DLP and active stereo projectors.

Special Show on Visualisation: Hall 17, E66

On a dedicated 500 m² stand, which ICIDO set under the motto “I see, it’s real”, visitors will be guided through a complete visualisation chain where diverse companies will be showcasing practical application samples.

Immediately after entering the booth, the visitor will be presented with a real highlight: On a 8m x 4,50m large screen, spectators will get an impressive introduction to the subject of 3D visualisation by watching a mixture of real and 3D film scenes. The film was created in co-operation between ICIDO and 3D Madness and will be projected onto the screen using two Christie Roadster HD18K. The high-performance 3-Chip DLP projectors equipped with Infitec filters will be delivering the passive-stereo images.

In order to get to know more on the subject of Virtual Reality, visitors are invited to continue their walk to a separate area where they can fully immerse into a virtual world. A three sided Cave will be set-up to present an engineering scenario where the workflow of a filling line is visualised. Behind each of the three projected sides, a Christie Mirage HD6 is responsible for the bright – and most importantly – sharp, active-stereo 3D-images.

As if that were not enough: Spectators will be able to see how companies profit from the virtual world using a power wall for product presentations, for when they need to configure large component parts. Another two Mirage HD6 projectors will be used for the 5m x 3m rear projection wall which will be installed by imsys, located in Leonberg. Imsys is also responsible for the planning and set-up of an on-screen projection display where a virtual service and support scenario will be showcased using an additional Mirage Series projector.

Apart from the described projects, ICIDO was able to win further highly regarded companies to participate at this dedicated Hannover Messe Special in order to present themselves and their 3D and Virtual Reality knowledge.

CHRISTIE TAKES CENTRE STAGE AT PALME 2010 - PALME, Dubai – (18th – 20th April, 2010) Christie Middle East has occupied a central position at the PALME Middle East shows since setting up its regional office back in May 2007. PALME 2010 (Dubai International Exhibitions Centre, April 18-20) has been no exception with Simon Smith and his team setting out a range of dynamic and innovative new products.

Said Simon Smith, “We are also delighted to see that Sanctuary nightclub in Dubai — featuring 28 Christie projectors specified by partner, VenueTech — was the winner of PALME’s Best Entertainment Venue category.

The venue is stunningly realised through Christie projection. The innovative slant the projection by VenueTech has given to the Sanctuary’s visual landscape is taking Dubai to the forefront of nightlife – and far beyond.”

Christie® MicroTiles™ was the subject of a seminar given by Sales Consultant, Africa, Phil Lord, who used them as a base to discuss ‘Exploiting Current Trends and Future Trends of Digital Signage Technology and LED’. Christie also have major control room presence in the GCC region, and Phil Lord took the opportunity to outline ‘Future Control Rooms – the way the market is moving to lower cost of ownership through new technology.’

As one of the Gold sponsors of PALME 2010 Christie is taking full advantage, and is presenting leading-edge products for all their major market sectors, including 3D/Simulation; Broadcast/Control Rooms, Digital Cinema, Rental Staging, and AV Integration — all demonstrating true cost of ownership.

Pride of place is taken by MicroTiles. Said PALME Show director, Alex Heuff, “Industry hotspots such as digital displays technologies, video conferencing and command and control facilities will feature strongly at this year’s PALME event, and we are delighted to be showcasing a number of industry firsts for the region including the Middle East introduction of the latest in display technology – MicroTiles from industry leader Christie.

“Design experts have described the system as a revolution in display technology and one of the wonders of the world in displays,” Heuff continued. “The digital display tiles can be stacked and clustered like building blocks to create walls of any shape or scale, using an optical design that produces unparalleled levels of brightness, contrast and colour reproduction.”

Christie — whose global customers include Disney, the BBC, Toyota, the Cannes International Film Festival, Nasdaq, Harrods, the China Film Council and NASA — see a broad application base for MicroTiles, including boardrooms, broadcast studios, digital signage, houses of worship, live venues, retail advertising, government and educational facilities.

Entero LED is the world’s first LED-based SXGA+ and WUXGA resolution projection display system, purpose built for control room and videowall applications. Utilising the new generation of solid state LED technology, Christie Entero™ LED is a pioneering, LED-illuminated, 1-chip DLP® product line that features a “zero maintenance” design. The LEDs are rated at more than 50,000 hours over five years of dependable operation. With no consumable components such as lamps, filters or colour wheels to replace, the Christie Entero LED delivers the ultimate in uninterrupted, 24/7 performance for exceptional reliability and low cost of ownership.

LX605: At 6000 ANSI lumens the Christie LX605 is ideal for medium to large venue presentations — designed for easy setup, high performance, and use in a myriad of installation applications since it is capable of accepting a wide range of sources. It has been boosted by a new four-corner geometry correction tool, 3D Keystone™ technology, as well as centre lens design with motorised lens shift for easy setup.

Mirage HD6: This sets a new benchmark in stereographic projection as the first and only full 1920 x 1080 HD resolution 3D active stereo solution, utilised in a single projector or multi-projector array. The Mirage HD6 enables a new level of compatibility with computers and infrastructure that supports HD active stereo, up to 120Hz output due to unique image processing technology from up to 60Hz input, without requiring super bandwidth DVI or analogue infrastructure.

DHD700: The HD single-chip DLP® projector delivers high brightness in full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. It features a unique, user-changeable, twin-colour wheel system that the user can tailor to maximise either high brightness needs or superior colour reproduction (depending on the presentation). With an incredible 6500 ANSI lumens, and a series of six optional motorised, high definition lenses, the Christie DHD700 delivers superior image performance.

DS+6K-M: The most compact in its class, the Christie M Series platform delivers brightness, versatility, reliability and affordability. At 6300 ANSI lumens (dual lamps, 200W), it offers high efficiency and low cost of ownership by drawing a maximum power of 870W — offering full brightness while using less power. The Christie DS+6K-M has 1400 x 1050 native resolution and a variable contrast ratio of 2500-10,000:1 using dynamic iris (full on, full off) / 650:1 ANSI for crisp, detailed images.

HD18K: The Christie HD Series offers the broadest range of the brightest native HD resolution projectors – bar none. Lighter, lower power consumption and 10% brighter than the competition the Roadster HD18K HD DLP® digital projector is typical of the series, offering high resolution, crisp images from 10-bit processing combined with an HD platform.

CP2000-M: The most compact DLP Digital Cinema® projector in the world, this delivers up to 13,000 lumens of output power, and is designed to maintain DCI luminance requirements on smaller screens up to 35 feet wide. At less than 100lbs, the projector can be transported and installed by only two people. Based on .98” DLP Digital Cinema® technology, the CP2000-M uses high efficiency 1800 and 2000 watt CDXL-SD Xenon lamps, while the competition requires larger, 3000 watt lamps for the same output — a clear Christie advantage on cost of ownership and lumens per watt.

Simon Smith concludes, “As the PALME show has broadened its base these products will address all our core market sectors.”
