Face-lift for the Regal - West Briton -
Redruth's Regal Cinema has been redecorated and given a new lease of life thanks to a major regeneration scheme. The Redruth Heritage Economic Regeneration Scheme has helped fund a major exterior refurbishment of the building this included strucutural repairs, replacement windows and the instatement of metal works. Since it's launch four years ago the regenration project has helped improve 35 properties in Redruth with the hope of boosting the town's economic growth.

The Garston Empire has closed (was bingo), & it is planned to be demolished it is to make way for a car park for a nearby hospital; leaving the Carlton in Orell Park is the only former Liverpool cinema to still run bingo.
The present Odeon, with 10 screens, dates back from 1934 and was formerly the Paramount and is being replaced with a new Odeon Multiplex in Paradise Street, "Liverpool One", which is due to open on September 30th with 14 screens.

Sing Along To Mamma Mia! Overseas - U.K. exhibitors like Vue, Cineworld, Odeon, Empire Cinemas, Showcase Cinemas and Picturehouse will be hosting sing-along screenings of Mamma Mia!, beginning August 22. Given that it's the 19th-highest grossing movie in the history of British cinema, it's probably already playing in a lot of those theaters as it is. Today (13th August) sees Vicky Mansfield leaving not only Marble Arch cinema, but also Odeon to head to a new job as Media Management Operator for Red Bee Media based at White City. Vicky said that she is sad to be leaving the industry but feels things have changed significantly over the ten years she has been working within cinemas. Although this new job offers a range of career opportunities within the broadcast and film sector, it's not all bad news as Vicky doesn't want to completely turn her back on the cinema industry and is keen to both keep in touch with collegues and would also like to do some freelance projection work. She has also promised to write some articles for this site. So the best of luck and many congratulations from the Mad Cornish Projectionist.

Firstly I would like to make a simple observation that this is how going to the cinema should be. Very comfortable seats, plenty of legroom for tall people like myself, excellent view of the screen, very good sound quality and above all else the feeling that you are being looked after by people with a real passion for cinema and films.
