Digital cinema roll out in Europe - Figures published last week by the European Audiovisual Observatory in association with MEDIA Salles reveal that 2008 saw an increase across Europe in the number of digital screens equipped with DLP Cinema or Sony 4K technology. The Observatory estimates that around 5% of all European screens had been converted to digital by the end of 2008. WBIC has signed Kodak Digital Cinema to install a networked digital advertising system in all its cinemas, numbering 172 screens in 17 sites when two new sites are completed this year. WBIC is building on Kodak's work in Japan with its sister cinema circuit to digitise its screen advertising in Italian market, generally lagging behind in the wider digital cinema marketplace. An all-digital multiplex is to be opened in Bergen in order to assess the reality of a digital environment and film flow.

Utopia Group has just signed an agreement with XDC for the roll out of 30 digital screens spread over four countries: Luxembourg, Belgium, France and The Netherlands.
