Pre-tax profits have jumped at the UK arm of the company behind Showcase Cinemas, newly filed documents have confirmed.

NATL Amusements (UK), which also operates the Cinema De Lux brand, has posted pre-tax profits of £3.2m for the year to 3 January 2019, up from £256,931 in the prior 12 months.

The Nottingham-headquartered business has also reported a turnover of £109m for the year, up from £106.5m.

A statement signed off by the board said: “NATL’s cinema business is based exclusively in the UK and so it is exposed to UK economic conditions and consumer confidence.

“The company’s business and future success depends on the availability of films for screening in its cinemas and appeal of such films to its customers.

“As a leisure activity, cinema may be affected by the general level of consumer spending on leisure activities and may also be affected by changing consumer preferences.

“The directors expect that the present level of activity will be sustained for the foreseeable future.”
