CINEMAS GET SURPRISE HELPING HAND

Coming as a boon to cinema operators who need as many new films as possible post-lockdown, a new content powerhouse called REDUX CINEMA LIMITED has launched in the UK with a slate of over 20 high profile films capable of keeping cinemas stocked with fresh content for almost an entire year. Hot picks include Jungle Book: The Undiscovered Version and The Assassination of Stanley Kubrick both available from May 2021.

The innovative new distribution outfit, which will see its slate grow to over 40 titles within the next 12 months, includes prestigious art house fare as well as broad commercial titles. Each redux film is a reworking of a classic movie, combining the original dialogue with custom subtitles to tell a brand new story using the same cast. The redux concept is not the same as a ‘repertory film’, which means a re-release of an old film. Each redux version is something new and unique that audiences will not have seen before.

Spearheaded by former Odeon Cinemas executive Marc John, a 20-year cinema industry veteran, the redux slate is being held back from streaming to give cinemas first dibs. John says: “Redux Cinema features iconic stars like Marlon Brando, Richard Burton, Marilyn Monroe and Cary Grant in stories we’ve never seen before. It should be an intriguing experience for audiences and could, potentially, ease the pain for a lot of cinema operators and their troubled landlords.”
