Technology and filmmaking have always had an oddly symbiotic relationship. Certain techniques in filmmaking become popular almost as a direct result of new technology, making certain actions possible that might have literally been impossible before. As an example, early sound films don’t have a great deal of camera movement. This isn’t because they didn’t want to move the camera. But, because early sound capture required such elaborate tools and rigging to be accomplished successfully, there were many times where the camera literally couldn’t move if the hope was to capture dialogue and picture simultaneously.
