Just over fifty years ago, before even the University campus existed Flix – Loughborough Student Cinema was formed. Fifty years on, and with its home now firmly placed in the union, the society is as exciting and innovative as it ever was.

With a titanic size screen measuring 12′ x 30′ which equals the largest in the Curzon and a sound system of awesome power, Flix is a fully functional professional cinema. A fun loving and dedicated committee of volunteer students, with a passion for what they do, run the society. A number of Flix projectionists have gone on to work for other cinemas and other committee members gain numerous other valuable skills.

FLIX holds showings in the Students’ Union auditorium each Tuesday & Sunday. Sunday sees the latest blockbusters arriving on the screen, while Tuesday sees a much wider choice of films shown. Tuesday films have included everything from Top Gun to Cinema Paradiso. This is your chance to get to see a film you have missed at the cinema but have always wanted to see on the big screen. Just suggest a film and if there is enough interest we will show it.

This term sees films like Star Wars, Saving Private Ryan, Men in Black and Romeo and Juliet being shown. You don’t even have to be a member of Flix to see a film. Just arrive at the non-members entrance in the Big Curvy Bar before the film and you can gain entry. Unfortunately while members get in free non-members have to pay £2.00 on a Sunday or £2.50 for two films or £1.50 for one on a Tuesday.

Flix members not only get to see the films each week for free, but also get to choose the films for that are shown. Flix also gets various promotions and special offers over the year, and has had strong support from the local Curzon Cinema (http://www.curzoncinema.co.uk).

If your club or society is looking for an alternative social or another way to advertise then Flix can also help with that. For more details about Flix, or becoming a committee member, see our website at http://www.flix.org.uk or email the chair at chair@flix.org.uk
