Cineworld launches in Time Square with Superscreen

The cinema opened its doors in Time Square for the first time for a VIP gala on Tuesday evening before opening to the public today, Wednesday.

Those invited were among the first to look inside and were treated to a preview screening of Jumanji: The Next Level in the cutting edge Superscreen room after an introduction from Warrington general manager Sonia Trayford.

NOTHING quite prepares you for the scale of Cineworld Warrington’s Superscreen – it is gigantic.

With a height of 8.9m and width of 16.2m, the high definition laser projection screen fills the wall from corner to corner and Time Square is the chain’s first cinema to feature it.

Although a part of us might miss the Buttermarket Street Odeon’s theatre-style curtain and art deco touches that now firmly belong to a former era, it is great to see the town now leading in cinema technology.

Sure, Warrington’s Superscreen is not as big as IMAX screens but there are probably more pros than there are cons to that.

IMAX rooms tend to be cavernous by their very nature whereas this felt like a normal auditorium albeit with an extraordinary screen.
