A similar, if more cumbersome, hashtag #oscarswritingsomale could be used to emphasize the ongoing male domination of the two writing Oscars, Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay. However, recent years have seen an increase in the recognition and celebration of movies written by women, with films such as “Promising Young Woman” and “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” receiving nominations in the writing categories.
