The Mahoning Drive-In Theater near Lehighton is staying open after a Connecticut developer decided to suspend its plan to construct a solar farm at the property once it saw the outpouring of community support for the 72-year-old establishment.
Virgil Cardamone, one of the partners in the theater as well as its film curator, said Greenskies Clean Energy informed the theater of the news Thursday afternoon. The drive-in now will turn its attention, he said, to trying to purchase the property from landowner Joseph Farruggio.
