The historic Hulme Hippodrome theatre has been put up for auction this week, sparking a huge public outcry.
The Edwardian theatre was one of the country’s finest musical and comedic spaces in its heyday but has since fallen into a state of disrepair.
Local community groups have been campaigning to bring the building back into public use after the neighbouring Playhouse Theatre was revived by theatre co-operative NIAMOS.
The building has been put up for auction – much to the surprise of those trying to salvage it – for what’s been described as an ‘unrealistic’ and ‘crazy’ price of £950,000.
