Representatives from Denmark’s cinema sector, including Michael Valentine and Asger Bech Thomsen, participated in a UNIC-hosted Outreach Day in Brussels on December 3 and 4. The delegation engaged with European policymakers to discuss the vital cultural, social, and economic roles of cinemas in Denmark and the EU. Key topics included the importance of theatrical exclusivity, copyright territoriality, and EU support for film through the MEDIA+ programme, alongside issues like the Audiovisual Media Services Directive and anti-piracy measures. The event culminated in a private screening of the Danish film “Det Nye År” at UGC De Brouckère, attended by over 90 stakeholders, underscoring the sector’s commitment to cultural engagement and policy advocacy.
