The great André Bazin, co-founder of Cahiers du Cinema, the spiritual godfather of the French nouvelle vague (new wave), and probably the most important film critic and theorist ever, argued in his book Qu’est-ce que le cinéma? (What is cinema?) that film, like flight, has always existed — at least in the mind of humanity.
