Nottingham Theatre Royal was built in 1865 by C J Phipps and cost £15,000, it was completed in just six months. Theatre Square has seen many changes, the Statue of Samuel Morley once stood in front. The bust of Mr Morley now stands in the Arboretum, the statue fell off the back of a lorry during the move in 1927 and only the head and shoulders survived.
