Odeon plan approved

The Planning Committee earlier today approved the development proposals submitted by Duddingston House Properties for the Odeon Cinema in Clerk Street. The decision was approved on a majority vote. It remains to be seen in the current property market and with the parlous state of the economy whether the development goes ahead. The unoccupied property has become a blight on the Clerk Street area. There were objections from many who felt the B listed cinema should have been completely retained, and concerns were also expressed that alternative schemes to bring viability to the premises had not been given sufficient opportunity to succeed.
