A couple who transformed part of an 18th century coaching inn into one of the UK’s smallest cinemas have admitted they aren’t even film buffs. David Maclay, 72, and Juliet Maclay, 61, bought the old Red Lion pub in Axbridge, Somerset in 1997 after moving to the area from New York via a short stint in London.

They found the country pub in dire need of repair, and spent around ten years transforming the rest of the property into a liveable family home.

As they reached the end of their renovations they found an empty room at the back of the building and decided to set up the community cinema – called The Roxy.
