As these pictures show, York’s new cinema is shaping up to be on an epic scale.

Cineworld at the new York Stadium is due to open on December 13, and already much of the fitting out is complete.

Its IMAX screen measures a whopping 22.29m by 16.81m – making it one of the largest in the UK. The tech specs include 12 Channel IMAX Immersive Sound System and a 3D laser projector – which is monitored live by IMAX in Canada, but can also be controlled from an iPad in York.

Cineworld York also includes ScreenX, described as the “world’s most immersive cinema experience”, which brings a 270-degree viewing experience via five digital laser projectors – four of them in ceiling.

There are two VIP screens, one seating 40 people and the other 45 seats. All are electric reclining seats with individual tables. Complimentary dining and soft drinks are included in VIP ticket prices.

There will be no projectionists at Cineworld York – screenings are all controlled digitally from tablets or PCs.
