If we don’t rush back to the cinema, moviegoing as we know it will die

Ignore the pushback – the communal audience is the lifeblood of cinema, and we need it back as soon as possible.

I don’t know about you, but after spending nine unbroken weeks at home with my children, I feel very ready to go and sit in a dark room in silence with some strangers. That’s why I was tentatively ecstatic at the news this week that the Vue multiplex chain was gearing up to reopen in early July – if wider public-health considerations allow – with a suite of new Covid-proof precautionary measures in place.
