A plush new film house will open its doors in a north-east town in December.

Arc Cinema does not have an official opening date, but is planning to welcome the public around Christmas at the former Gala Bingo site on Peterhead’s Marischal Street.

The state-of-the-art five-screen cinema which has been hailed by Aberdeenshire Council as a “significant opportunity” for the Blue Toon will lead to the closure of the volunteer-run Peterhead Cinema at the Leisure Community Centre.

Arc Cinema will boast 422 luxury leather armchair seats, digital laser projection with 3D capability and Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound including the Fidelio system for the hard of hearing.

All of the screens at the new facility will be wheelchair-accessible and it will also have subtitled screenings. The venue will show the latest blockbuster and independent films, in addition to screenings of opera, ballet and theatrical productions.
