Plans have been approved after previous failed attempts

Designs have finally been approved for a new Colchester retail and leisure development after years of failed applications.

Last week, plans for the huge Tollgate Village development in Stanway, as well as improvements to the current buildings at Tollgate Retail park were approved by Colchester Council’s planning department.

The new development is expected to cost £70million.

Plans for the project had been refused twice by Colchester Council but they have have finally got the seal of approval following the Secretary of State granting planning permission in 2017.

Tollgate Village is set to be built on vacant land opposite the existing retail park and should bring a host of new leisure activities to the area.

There will also be work on two areas north of the existing site, encompassing the old Sainsbury’s, which will include the creation of new units and improvements to existing ones.
