The scribbles were found on an entrance wall at Jam Jar Cinema, on Park Avenue, in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, this week.

The facility has become a much-loved feature of the town over the years and the incident left many people angry, with some describing the act as “shameful”, “disgraceful” and “mindless”.

However Jam Jar’s response, which in true movie style made reference to Liam Neeson’s famous lines in Taken, is being applauded on social media.

Their message, posted on Facebook, also mentioned The Great British Bake Off.

It read: “A huge sarcastic thank you to the person who rather than using a lovely gold pen to write Christmas cards… decided to scrawl on our new accessible entrance.

“If this was bake off, I’d have to say, it lacks skill, flair and artistic ability. One soggy bottom…

“So I leave our talentless artist with this final thought…

“I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for ransom I can tell you I don’t have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.

“P.S … The bird poo looks better.”

They also added a box with the words: “This tag is rubbish. Artistic flair – 2/10, penmanship – 4/10, style – 3/10, creativity – 0/10. P.S you look great on CCTV.”

Scores of people commented on the post and said it was a great response to the incident while urging the cinema to keep up its good work.
