Ridiculous number of films hitting UK cinemas, says BFI

A “ridiculous” and unsustainable number of films are being released into British cinemas, the British Film Institute has said.

A total of 698 films were released last year, compared to 503 in 2009. In the year 2000, the figure was only 383.

Film-goers now face too much choice, according to the BFI, and some decent films are failing to find the audience they deserve because they disappear from cinemas after a couple of weeks to make way for the next offerings.
