The Moviehouse in Millerton, a historic gem, is up for sale

Sadly, so many of the country’s Main Street movie houses have gone the way of the wrecking ball in the name of “progress.”

Fortunately, a few of these wonderful nods to the past remain and one of them is in Millerton, N.Y. and it’s called, quite appropriately “The Moviehouse.” According to a history of this gem, The Moviehouse was commissioned by one Julius Benedict and built in 1903 as Grange #796. It was eventually converted into a movie theater with a ballroom on the second floor of the classically designed building, which also has a clock tower sitting atop it.
