Sony Digital Cinema 4K confirms yet another installation of its high-brightness SRX-R515DS projection system in Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s 9-screen multiplex at the upscale One Loudoun development in Ashburn, VA.

The SRX-R515DS ensures stunning 30,000-lumen pictures on Theatre A’s 56-foot (17m) Premium Large Format screen, teamed with jaw-dropping sound from a Dolby Atmos audio system. Also on the menu for Drafthouse patrons are full service at-seat dining and drinks plus large, luxurious seats for a truly memorable night out.

All nine screens at One Loudoun are exclusively equipped with Sony 4K projectors, including six other SRX-R515P systems – one of the first such installations in the US. The cinema also operates Sony’s Theatre Management System (TMS) to handle content ingest and show playlists in each auditorium.

World’s coolest theatre standardises on Sony 4K

Named ‘the world’s coolest movie theatre’ by wired.com, Alamo Drafthouse currently operates cinemas at 26 US locations. The great majority of screens across Drafthouse’s coast-to-coast estate are equipped with Sony Digital Cinema projectors, including SRX-R500 Series models that give audiences unmatched true 4K picture quality thanks to their industry-leading 8000:1 average contrast ratio.

“Guests simply love it” say Alamo Drafthouse Cinema franchise partners Joseph Edwards and Anthony Coco, co-owners of the One Loudoun site. “We have received extremely positive feedback from our guests about the picture quality and sound in Theatre A. In my opinion, we’re presenting movies better than you’ll find almost anywhere else. And the bottom line is we have developed a deeply rooted following, due to the truly immersive film going experience we provide in general but particularly this auditorium.”

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s ambitions for growth in the region continue unabated. The trail-blazing operator is currently readying a new 7-screen site in Charlottesville, VA for opening later in 2017, plus yet another theatre at an undisclosed North Virginia location in 2018 and one in Washington D.C. in 2019. These sites will also offer Premium Large Format screen facilities similar to Theatre A at One Loudoun.

“We’ve had nothing but a good experience from working with Sony”, confirms Joseph Edwards. “All our staff at One Loudoun enjoy the simple, intuitive operation and reliability of the projectors – and the convenience of easy lamp cartridge changeovers.”
