What the Heck Is That?

A look at one of the entries from last week’s puzzles that stumped our solvers. An odeon (sometimes spelled “odeum”) was a building used for musical or poetry performances in ancient Greece and Rome. The word comes from the Greek “ōideion,” which is derived from “ōidē,” or “ode.” Odeon has appeared in the New York Times Crossword 154 times, clued primarily as the ancient theater.
