image003Basingstoke, 19 April 2013 – Sony has been announced as the chief technology sponsor for Germany’s biggest cinema industry event, Kino 2013, a landmark conference taking place in Baden-Baden from April 23-25.

Attracting exhibitors, distributors and service providers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Kino 2013 is a key event in the European cinema industry calendar. Guests at this year’s show will have the opportunity to experience first-hand the immersive quality of 4K technology, with a number of studios, distributors and Sony partners showing 2D and 3D content using Sony’s SRX-R515, allowing event-goers to experience the very highest picture quality and viewer experience.

Kino visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a range of screenings in the Kongresshaus auditorium using Sony Digital Cinema’s 4K SRX-R515 projector, while Sony will also be showcasing its latest product offerings in the Sony Digital Cinema lounge (Booth 204) at the event.

In addition to showcasing the benefits of 4K and 3D projection at the event, Sony will also be available to discuss its Virtual Print Fee programme, a finance model designed to make the transition to digital easier and more affordable. Sony helps shoulder the costs for cinemas switching to 4K. Sony Digital Cinema works closely with major movie studios and distributors to subsidise the cost of exhibitors’ technology transition. Sony’s VPF programme dramatically cuts capital investment and eases the cash flow as the audience enjoys the spectacular benefits of 4K projection from day one.

image002Oliver Pasch, Sales Director of Sony Digital Cinema, Sony Europe, said: “Kino 2013 represents a unique opportunity for key members of the German language film community to come together and share industry advances. The 4K message is likely to be a core theme of this year’s event. Since launching the SRX-R515 projector last year, we’ve seen tremendous interest in 4K projection with the European market fully embracing the possibilities of digital cinema and continuing to push the boundaries of film when it comes to the viewing experience. Kino 2013 will provide an opportunity to showcase these successes to the rest of the industry, and for others to experience the superior picture quality provided by 4K projection.”

The Sony 4K projectors on display at Kino will be installed and operated in association with Sony’s technical partner ZweiB GmbH.

Andreas Kramer, Chairman, HDF Kino e.V. said, “Kino 2013 is the largest national event geared towards the cinema industry and welcomes a range of industry professionals and media representatives from across Europe. We are delighted that Sony Digital Cinema has chosen to support the conference and look forward to hosting such cutting edge technology and helping to bring 4K to the mainstream.“
