The Women Film Pioneers Project (WFPP) is a free online database that seeks to illuminate the many women who worked behind-the-scenes in the early film industry as directors, producers, editors, and more. Always growing, the database features career profiles on each pioneer, longer overview essays on national cinemas and occupations, still and moving images, and archival and bibliographic resource materials. The online database was launched in September 2013 and has been quick to find its readership, Columbia’s Center for Digital Research and Scholarship reports that the site has been averaging about 4,000 hits/month since the launch in September, 2013.
